Description
Burrowing Owl in Flight
This spring I had the chance to visit Cape Coral, Florida and see their community of burrowing owls. The burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia) is a small brown and white owl with long legs and bright yellow eyes. They are normally found in open pastures and grasslands, usually found walking on the ground or sitting on short perches. They live in burrows underground, usually ones created by other animals. I have had the chance to see other owls and these have to be my favorite, they are very entertaining to watch with their facial expressions and angles. Burrowing owls don’t fly far from there burrows, this owl was going from his perch to the ground.
